Attack Lite - Poly
Large Diameter

Detailed Specifications

1.  SCOPE:

This specification covers the construction and performance criteria for 4” & 5” Double Jacket Large Diameter Hose suitable for a proof test pressure of 600 PSI.

2.  MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP :

All materials used in the fabrication of the hose shall be the best quality normally used for the purpose in good commercial practice. The workmanship shall be of the highest quality consistent with state-of- the art technology.  Unproven or experimental hose will be rejected.

3.  JACKET CONSTRUCTION:

a. The jackets shall be well, evenly and firmly woven and shall be free from unsightly defects, dirt, knots, lumps and irregularities of twist that might affect serviceability of the finished product. The two jackets shall be evenly matched to provide the best performance characteristics.

b. Each jacket shall be seamless and shall have filament polyester filler yarns woven around the hose throughout the length. The filler yarns shall be of sufficient tensile strength to meet the physical test requirements detailed herein.

c. The warp ends in each size shall be spun polyester in the outer jacket and filament polyester in the inner jacket with sufficient ends to cover the filler yarns. The filler yarns shall be virgin filament polyester.

4.  LINING:

a. The lining shall consist of a black synthetic polymer compound. It shall be of the highest quality and resistant To ozone and oxidation, compounded to give long life under good maintenance practices. The use of reclaimed material in the lining is not permissible.

b. The lining material shall be manufactured by a special method that introduces the lining material directly at the Loom. The lining shall fill all the corrugations of the weave and shall be welded to the inner jacket without the use of backing, glue or adhesive. The waterway shall be smooth and free from imperfections in order to provide reduced friction loss and greater flow.

c. The thickness of the lining shall be no less than .020”

d. The adhesion between the lining and the jacket shall be such that the rate of separation of a 1-½” wide strip of lining from the jacket under a 12 pound load shall be virtually impossible.

e. Lining meets specifications that can be used for potable water transfer.

5.  HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE TESTS:

a. Proof Pressure- Each length of hose shall withstand a hydrostatic pressure of 600 PSI for 15 seconds without leaking or breaking any thread in the jackets.

b. Elongation - The elongation of the hose while under a hydrostatic pressure of 600 PSI shall not exceed 10% of the
length from an initial measurement taken at a pressure of 10 PSI.

c. Twist- The hose, when tested to proof pressure shall not twist more than 1 turn per 50 feet. Direction shall be that Which will tighten the couplings, except a maximum of 2% per foot in the direction to loosen the couplings will be Permitted while the pressure is being raised to the appropriate level, provided that the final twist shall be in the direction to tighten the couplings.

d. Warp & Rise – The hose at proof pressure shall not warp more than 12 inches from a straight line drawn from center
to center of the fittings on the ends of the hose. The hose shall not rise from the table.

e. Kink- A full length of hose while kinked shall withstand, without rupturing or breaking any threads in the jacket.  a hydrostatic pressure of 450 PSI.

f. Straight Burst- A 3 foot specimen of the hose while laying straight shall have the pressure increased until burst occurs The pressure at which the burst occurs shall be not less than 900 PSI.

g. Curved Burst- A 3 foot specimen of the hose while curved to a radius of 27 inches shall have the pressure increased until burst occurs. The pressure at which the burst occurs shall be not less than 900 PSI.

6. DIMENSIONS:

a. The nominal internal diameter of the hose shall not be less than the advertised trade size.
b. The hose shall be in nominal lengths as specified when measured from back to back of the couplings at a measure of 10 PSI.
c. A 100 Foot length of hose, uncoupled, shall weigh 68 lbs. for the 4 inch and 89 lbs. for the 5 inch.

7. JACKET TREATMENT:

When specified ; unless otherwise specified the hose shall be supplied with wearguard treatment colored polymer emulsion which shall encapsulate each fiber of the yarns. This protection shall provide a minimum of 500% increase in abrasion resistance over the untreated hose of the same construction. In addition wearguard treatment shall decrease water absorption by 100% and provides superior abrasion, heat and flame resistance and adds suberb resistance to petrochemicals while giving the hose a bright, high visibility color.

8. MARKING:

Each length of hose shall be indelibly marked in letters and numerals at least 1 inch high. All markings shall be in accordance with NFPA 1961, latest edition.

9. COUPLINGS:

Each length of hse shall be supplied with hard coated extruded aluminum locking storz couplings with a waterway to match the nominal internal diameter of the hose to which they are attached. Couplings shall be Red Head style. Skt, Aluminum Extrusions, Cast Aluminum is not acceptable. Expansion Ring Threaded Couplings available upon request.

10. MEASUREMENTS:

All measurements and tests shall be in accordance with NFPA 1961 latest edition except where Otherwise prescribed in this specification.

11. JURISDICTION:

Any and all questions relating to the intent of these specifications or specifics regarding the Interpretation of any part of this specification shall be determined by the Chief of the Fire Department whose decision shall be final and binding.
